The Annamite pres met in Saigon on the 4th august to celebrate the anniversary of the so-called reedom of the press. But bitter speeches were made by the Annasite journalists present to the effect that although legally the ress was free in practice it was completely shackled. At the moment at least twenty Annamite journalists were in prison, some already sentenced, some awaiting trial. All were accused of violating the press laws. Speakers urged the meeting to fight for true liberty of opinion as Annamite journalists liked to express it in their papers.
Two papers in Chinese have been forbiduen the "Kouang Tong inpa" and "The Hongkong kipro".
